Desert Vista in Capitol Reef
An incredible view from the Navajo knobs overlooking the slanted cliffs of Capitol Reef in Utah.
On a beautifully cloudy winter day in Southern Utah, my friend and I decided to hike the Navajo Knobs trail in Capitol Reef National Park to see the sunset. It wasn't the longest trail, but it wasn't exactly an easy one. We ended up getting to the top quite a bit later than expected, but still an hour before the sun set. It was incredibly windy and bitterly cold––especially at the top, where we were awaiting the colorful show of the sunset. As the sunlight grew softer and more vibrant, I was taking photos through a hole in the knobs while being blasted with wind until my hands grew numb. While I was in this hole, using my own friction to keep from falling off, I saw some of the most beautiful lighting I've ever seen, and captured a photo. That was this photo. It is one of my favorite photos that I've ever taken. The soft sunlight brushing the sandstone peaks, mixed with clouds and the snow-covered mountains in the distance, created an incredible sight to behold. I'm thankful that in that moment, I captured that memory forever. I'd love to share that moment with as many others as I can.
